ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Jane Ames, AKA Jane of Arc, is a hooper and aerialist based out of Boston, MA. Since 2019 she's been growing her hoop practice and diving deeper into the flow community. She's also performed as a solo and duo trapeze artist and relishes any opportunity to perform in public. She brings her circus and burlesque background to bear on her hooping, which always leads to interesting results! As a longtime supporter and attendee at Oasis Hoop Retreat, she is thrilled to join as a first-time teacher.

WORKSHOPS:

HOOPlesque! -

After this workshop, participants will walk away with five concrete techniques to make their hoop practice, and in fact, any flow practice, more sensual and/or erotic. We will learn a basic hoop sequence and then enhance it with burlesque techniques to illustrate how details can give life to even simple sequences, and help unlock each individual's personal expression. At the end we'll have a few people show us what they came up with and celebrate each person's HOOPlesque style!

On Body-Ody-Ody -

There is a heavy emphasis on off-body tricks and techniques in the hooping world, and this workshop will bring us down a path towards on-body work and sustaining an on-body flow. First we'll work on breaks, paddles, and wedgies to build up a vocabulary for our on-body flow. Then we'll learn how to keep things moving: what about when the hoop goes wonky from a break? What if I feel it slipping down my body, how do I "save" it? What are some helpful transitions to get back into on-body flow when I need to reset? We'll explore all of these together and end with a mini flow jam to music, challenging ourselves to keep the hoop on our bodies as long as possible.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Hi! I’m Natalia from Argentina, I’m 28 years old and I’ve been practicing hula hoop for 8 years. In recent years, I’ve been performing my act at various festivals, conventions, events and circus companies. I have trained various circus disciplines but I am obsessed with learning different possibilities of doing hula hoop. I’m very excited to share and hula hoop with you!

WORKSHOPS:

Hands Off! -

In this workshop we’ll challange our way of hooping without using our hands and focusing the game in our legs. The objective is to integrate the low level and the floor. We’ll explore and learn different tricks, patterns, and sequences with one, two and three hoops all incorporating our leg movements. This is an invitation to enrich our body awareness and increase our training. Designing a game that doesn't allow us to use our hands definatelly allows us to expand the possibilities of our game and can be very funny!

The Sequence Factory -

This workshop aims to develop technical tools for creating sequences with hula hoops. Without an structure, linking our tricks can be an endless task. We´ll explore different ways of making connections between the tricks, body movements, spatial transitions, and other ways to level up our variations of resources that will be helpful to enrich our skills when creating sequences.
