Whether she is helping students explore single hoop movements or the dynamic art of doubles, Nicole’s goal is to help everyone build confidence, grace, and a flow. WORKSHOPS:

Spiral Pathways -

This workshop is designed for hoopers who want to expand their hoop flow through the exploration of coin flips, rolls, and circular movement patterns. Rather than focusing on isolated tricks, participants will learn how to transform technical elements into smooth, connected movement. We will explore a variety of coin flip entries, exits, and transitions which can be done in all parts of your body, along with back rolls, elbow rolls, chest rolls, palm rolls, and other rotational concepts that create dynamic and effortless-looking flow. Students will learn ways to link these elements together, develop fluid pathways around the body, and create seamless transitions that can be incorporated into their own style. This workshop is accessible to all levels, as options and progressions will be offered for beginners while more experienced hoopers will be challenged with creative variations and combinations. The focus will be on curiosity, exploration, and discovering new ways to move with your hoop and playing with all of this elements. Participants will leave with new technical tools, creative transition ideas, and a deeper understanding of how to build continuous, organic flow with one or two hoops.

Flow Architecture -

This workshop focuses on bridging the gap between individual tricks and continuous flow. Participants will explore how to connect movements smoothly and intentionally, transforming isolated techniques into cohesive sequences that feel natural and expressive. Using both one and two hoops, we will break down a variety of transitions, directional changes, pathways, and movement concepts that help create seamless flow. Students will learn practical tools for linking tricks together, maintaining momentum, and developing movement patterns that can be adapted to their own style. Suitable for a range of skill levels, this workshop emphasizes fluidity, creativity, and understanding the "why" behind transitions, helping hoopers build confidence in creating longer combinations and freestyle movement.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:

Jane Ames, AKA Jane of Arc, is a hooper and aerialist based out of Boston, MA. Since 2019 she’s been growing her hoop practice and diving deeper into the flow community. She’s also performed as a solo and duo trapeze artist and relishes any opportunity to perform in public. She brings her circus and burlesque background to bear on her hooping, which always leads to interesting results! As a longtime supporter and attendee at Oasis Hoop Retreat, she is thrilled to join as a first-time teacher.

WORKSHOPS:

HOOPlesque -

After this workshop, participants will walk away with five concrete techniques to make their hoop practice, and in fact, any flow practice, more sensual and/or erotic. We will learn a basic hoop sequence and then enhance it with burlesque techniques to illustrate how details can give life to even simple sequences, and help unlock each individual's personal expression. At the end we'll have a few people show us what they came up with and celebrate each person's HOOPlesque style!

On Body-ody-ody -

There is a heavy emphasis on off-body tricks and techniques in the hooping world, and this workshop will bring us down a path towards on-body work and sustaining an on-body flow. First we'll work on breaks, paddles, and wedgies to build up a vocabulary for our on-body flow. Then we'll learn how to keep things moving: what about when the hoop goes wonky from a break? What if I feel it slipping down my body, how do I "save" it? What are some helpful transitions to get back into on-body flow when I need to reset? We'll explore all of these together and end with a mini flow jam to music, challenging ourselves to keep the hoop on our bodies as long as possible.

WORKSHOPS:

Isopops - Exploring lines and space -

In this intensive workshop, we will dive into an exploration of one of the tricks we first learn as hoopers - the isopop. After exploring the basic mechanics with one and two hoops, we will learn how to use them to move dinamically into space. We will learn a lot of unique variations and combos that will showcase the versatility of this trick. It will be multi-leveled, so all hoopers are welcome to join!

Translating planes -

Did I graduate in languages just to be translating planes? Maybe 🎓 This workshop invites you to think outside the box by “translating” tricks and combos that are more conventionally done in the vertical plane into the horizontal plane, and vice versa. We will start by exploring the concept in general, playing with very beginner-friendly tricks; then we’ll move on to learning a longer combo, shown in both the vertical and horizontal planes. The moves will be broken down into small details so that they can be accessible to all levels. Useful prerequisites are the chest roll and the vortex, but you can definitely still come to class if you’re not super comfortable with them yet. Alternatives to these tricks will be shown in class if necessary. Grab your favourite off-body hoop in a size that allows you to do tricks like chest rolls, vortexes, elbow hooping, and neck hooping.
