WORKSHOP

‘Cacao & Choreo’ — This class is all about hooping with a partner, because hooping is ALWAYS better with friends. In this workshop, we’ll be learning a partner hoop routine that will emphasize choreography dynamics such as levels, mirroring, canons and more. Before moving into our choreo, we’ll ground in with cacao to open our hearts and root into a sacred, playful space. Once we’re dropped in, we’ll pair up with a partner and move through a series of connection exercises that inspire trust and connection. Partner work isn’t just about learning moves together, it’s about getting into an authentic flow with your partner that can be felt by the audience. From this place of connection and playfulness, we’ll learn a choreographed partner hoop routine that will begin with a single hoop and evolve into two hoops. You’ll discover how you can stylize the routine based on musicality, theme, and overall vibe. You’ll walk away with a routine to weave into your performances, and a deepened connection with your partner!

The cacao we will be using for our workshop will be sourced from the indigenous Bribri tribe of southern Costa Rica. Cacao is not only an important source of income for the Bribi tribe, but it’s also a way for them to stay connected to their ancestral roots. It’s an honor to support this local tribe and the loving care they put into this medicine.

WORKSHOP

‘Jaw-droppin' Jaw Breakers’ — This is a technical workshop that explores several ways to break the direction of the hoop with your jaw.  The class will start and end with some gentle stretching, and together we’ll really dive deep on the mechanics and technique of my favorite jaw-breaker variations.  Starting with basic chest-roll technique, we’ll learn how to incorporate different movements with our shoulder and jaw to interrupt the hoop on its path, and surprise our audience.  We’ll also go over a few jawbreakers that stem from other familiar tricks.  You’ll learn the appropriate speed, direction, and timing necessary to master these fun, jaw-dropping hoop tricks.

WORKSHOP

‘Two Hoops, One Hand’ —

In this workshop we will dive into the world of using two hoops in one hand and explore a variety of techniques that promise to challenge and inspire new possibilities.

A few of the tricks we will play with include: Isoflower, ocho grip scissor switches and same direction split time on the hand. We'll work through many drills and dexterity exercises that will help build control. I will also share several ways to enter and exit out of the isoflower, which will help integrate these moves into your twin hoop flow.  If you are new to working with two hoops, having them both in the same hand can be a great way to get started! For those of you who are already comfortable working with two hoops in one hand, I will challenge you with variations and we will work on timing and posture to help build towards having two hoops in each hand to open up working with 4 hoops.
